Wisconsin to New Mexico-Day 1

I was so excited about this trip, that I left a day early! Sunday, May 23rd, 2010. Leaving from Prescott, WI to Deming, New Mexico. Pulled out of the driveway at 5:45AM and the mileage on my car was: 53,902. Beautiful day to start. Sunny and warm. Made the Iowa border by 8AM, Nebraska border by 4PM. Stopped for the night at the Comfort Inn in Kearney, NE. There were tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings.

Some of the highlights of the day: As I drove through Winterset, Iowa, I saw a sign that said, "Birthplace of John Wayne, 13 miles". In the scheme of things, that wasn't far at all so I took the sidetrip! When I saw the statue of him in the town square, I got goosebumps! Saw the house he was born in, and then, toured some of the "Bridges of Madison County". They were fantastic and the countryside was beautiful!

I kept running into a very nice older couple, traveling from N.C. By the time I left, I had made some new friends!

Here are some pictures of day 1:

Girl, what are you doing shooting a picture up from in-between John Wayne's legs? Don't you see the double barrel pointing at you??
